Devotional help...

I am looking for a really good new devotional for myself -- any ideas? (I'm also looking for a swift kick in the butt to get me going and to keep me on track with my daily devotions ... but I'm pretty sure I can handle that on my own.)

So, let's recap:

Solicited advice: Devotional for me (a mom, wife, and busy woman)
Unsolicited request: Kick in the butt

That about covers it. Now -- I've got to get back to the very glamorous and exciting assignment I've recently been given -- data entry of 500 pages -- THAT'S A REAM OF PAPER,people!! I'll be typing for an eternity.

If you need me, I'll be at the key board.

Ehem ... cough, sputter ... anyone have a pair of reading glasses I can borrow?

Gibee you sound just like me with staying on track with devotionals. I've requested these ones: Coffee Cup Bible Series. I've heard they are really good but I've never actually looked at one myself.

I adore the One Year Bible. It's the bible divided up into 365 daily readings BUT each day includes a portion from Old Testament, a portion from new, and some from Psalms and Proverbs, so you don't get so bogged down in, say, Lamentations. Can't finish it in a year? that's okay. There's no commentary, but I think you need God's Word straight more than you need commentary anyway.

How was that for a kick in the pants?

I'm eager to hear what suggestions you get as I could also use some new ideas!! I'm in need of a "breath of fresh air" as well!!

I like The Upper Room, it is quick and to the point and at the same time inspirational. Good luck with all of those pages!

GiBee, there's a link on my site "devotions" and it takes you to Beth Moore's online site. I always find a lot to savor in her writing (and her daughter is writing, too).

I need a swift kick, also. My collection grows but my reading does not keep pace! Chrissy

An idea I have used before is having a daily devotional sent to me by email. Since I check email everyday, I am sure to read it. :o)

There are a variety of email devotionals to choose from. I recommend using "google" to find one that suits you.

(I would love to hear what you decide to go with.)

Sounds like a very fun project you've got going there.

Well, I don't know about actual devotional books; our Sunday School class has done some great studies lately:

--The 5 Love Languages of Children
--Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey
--How To Make Children Mind Without Losing Yours
--etc.etc.etc....

I don't think they are considered devotional books but they are biblically based and very, very good resources. Those are my suggestions.

Now for that kick in the butt.....

Elisabeth Elliot's Keep a Quiet Heart is a collection of devotional essays on a variety of topics. I admire her so much and though you may not agree with all her views on all topics, she's an amazing Godly woman.
