Shower Misery

As usual ... I let things "pile" until I explode ... and I've reached that point. So now, I will blog about what's bothering me, and I'll open the lines up for advice from my dear friends and fellow bloggers.

I hate cleaning bathrooms. HAAATE it. Okay, not so much bathrooms, but shower stalls with glass doors. And, I've let it go so long that it is Naaas---teee. As in, "Honey, what was that moving in the corner of the shower?" Okay, maybe not that nasty, but ever so close. I have tried everything, and I mean that literally. So, I'm tossing it out to you ... what works best on removing mold and mildew from a ceramic tiled shower stall (including the grout), and what works best on removing the soap scum buildup on the glass shower doors? And, while we're here, what's the best way to remove whatever is hanging out in the track that those glass doors are supposed to glide along? I'm not hung up on natural stuff, and I don't care if it's the strongest, paint peeling chemical on earth -- I just want it to work, and work fast. Without a whole lot of scrubbing.

That's it! My dilemma of the week. I'll carefully peruse all of your Godly and wise advice and try the best offered solutions.

So ... make sure your solution includes chocolate. Oh, never mind!

My suggestion? Call a cleaning service, sit back and eat chocolate while they do all the work.

Yeah. That would work.

I'm actually waiting to see what others write because... ummm... not that I have this problem, but it would be good to see if anyone else could help me... I mean you out. Yeah. That's what I mean.

My shower gets that way too! It doesn't help that our bathroom has poor ventilation. Something I've discovered lately is peroxide. It eats away at the "organic" matter and loosens it up for easier scrubbing. I also invested in one of those scrubbing bubbles shower things...not the most attractive, but it has decreased my scrubbing time. Good luck! Plan on rewarding yourself w/ chocolate when you're done! ;-)

When mine gets like this, I use Tilex. It just bleaches out all the mold and mildew. I've heard that vinegar is the best thing for shower doors...ours are stained with water spots from the previous owner and I've tried EVERYTHING to clean them to no avail. You will want to Tilex and LEAVE the bathroom for quite some time (like before work). It's strong!

Magic Erasers are my solution to everything. And maybe through a little cleaning agent on there, too. There is not one thing I have found that magic eraser can't clean. ;-)

I use the wal-mart generic spray cleaner with BLEACH. Spray it generously and leave it alone. Repeat a few days.

Also, it will slow the growth of mold if you leave the door open after you shower--dries out quicker and better.

Mold and Mildew remover. Give it a place of honor in your bathroom, and SPRAY THE SHOWER every time you take a shower. As long as you keep it up the shower stays mostly clean.

If you get behind a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (yes I know the horror stories behind it) works well to make it sparkle again.

TILEX mold and mildew works pretty well. Spray every area liberally(cover your nose while doing this.) Walk out of the bathroom and shut the door. I wait a while before going back in because the smell is powerful. Good Luck.

I hate to admit it, but the last person to really clean our glass shower door and the shower itself was O.H. and I can only guess what he did based on the available cleaning products.
I think he used Easy Off Bam! for everything and just spent a whole of time scrubbing. It did come out clean when he was done though. We have friends that keep a squeegee (sp?) in their shower, and after every shower they quickly go over all of the glass surfaces--door and walls. They say it keeps it very clean and only takes about a minute.

I like the cleaning service suggestion however I have recently discovered Melalueca. It's all natural and their tub and tile spray is AMAZING!!!!! And I like products that work. Things with bleach in them can remain in the air for an hour and a half. Just food for thought. I love their products. I hope this doesn't sound like an advertisement. The previous owners of our house suggested Oxyclean. They really liked how it worked.

Hey Girl! My best friend just turned me on to Easy Off Bam The lime and something or other one, but it works wonders!!!!!!!

I don't have a shower stall, but my suggestion is Comet liquid bathroom cleaner. This stuff works great on soap scum. Just spray it on and let it sit. Sometimes I leave it for a good 5-10 minutes, then respray, and there is minimum effort in scrubbing. I find it works great in corners as well, just use an old toothbrush. Let us know what you use and how it works.
As for the chocolate...i say grab a handful of cadbury mini eggs while your waiting for the cleaner to soak, then you can burn up those calories by scrubbing. And when your done, grab another handful...sounds good to me.

I would like to hear those horror stories about the magic eraser that Sheri is talking about. I like using that product as well, but if there are reasons why they are not good, id be curious.

Get a steam cleaner... no chemicals and it kills everything. The other option for build up is Zout made by oxyclean. It doesn't smell horrible and it literally wipes off, which is wonderful for my weak wrists. I hate cleaning bathrooms too.

Magic Eraser is great, but I have to wear gloves when I use one b/c the sponge iteself has a PH which causes irritation on my skin.

But, for mildewy showers, I like LYSOL Mold and Mildew. It smells very strong, so I have to open a window when I use it, but it gets everything off without much work.
