Works For Me Wednesday -- Earache Relief

Monday afternoon, Hunter was diagnosed with an ear infection and pink eye in BOTH eyes. Joy.
Monday night, at precisely 10:28 p.m., we were awakened by a screaming, crazy-in-pain child. He proceeded to scream, buck his body, slap his head and cry for about another 2 hours. I had one foot out the door, ready to take him to the hospital, but his Pediatrician called back and said there was nothing we or the hospital could or would do for the pain (other than Tylenol and Motrin). That's just great!

Earlier in the day at Hunter's doctor appointment, the Nurse Practitioner mentioned some Homeopathic drops we could try. We couldn't find them when we got his prescription filled, but at this point, I was willing to try ANYTHING. So, I sent my wonderful husband out on a mission. Go to all the 24-hour pharmacies, and DON'T COME BACK WITHOUT THE DROPS.

He found them at the first pharmacy he went to. And let me tell you... my son stopped crying within 20 minutes of getting the drops in his ears. These drops were a LIFE SAVER. Are you wondering what they are?

They are Similasan Earache Relief Ear Drops. This product may be used alone or in conjunction with other OTC pain relievers or prescription antibiotics. Also, it may work for some, and not for others, but it sure was worth the try!

I'm pretty sure that most moms know about this product by now, but for all you new moms out there who haven't had to deal with an ear infection yet, you may want to place this in your medicine cabinet ... just in case.

Those are new to me, but my boys are older. Something we have done that works wonders is to put a drop of warm honey in the ear and gently massage it for a few minutes. Works every time for us!

Great tip. My kids ar adults now but I'm passing this on to all the mommies I know.

The one sure cure for an earache around here is breastmilk. (I don't tell them what it is), I just go to the bathroom to "mix up a special batch of ear drops" and come out with a little medicine cup. Works every time!
Maybe when I'm done nursing, I'll try this out.

Hi, GiBee! I am like you when my babies are in pain. I am ready to try ANYTHING. The last time my boys had an ear infection, we went to the doctor, & I asked for a prescription for some drops for pain. She did not give me one because she said if there was a tear in there I could unknowingly do damage. Still, I really wanted that script because the drops do give such relief. I may have to think about adding this to my medicine closet. Thanks.

Great Advice! I believe our sons were born on the same day...10/5/05 (I was trying to figure out his b-day by your cute alligator calendar at the top, but I may be wrong)??? My son has had 3 ear infections that have been diagnosed, maybe a couple more that I have nursed him through minus the antibiotics...I am going to add this to my shopping list tonight! Thanks!

I never heard of this, but I'm so glad you shared it. My older boy is pretty much past the ear infection stage, but I'm sure the baby will start getting them way too soon. I'll add this to my medicine cabinet. Thanks!

Fortunately, we have been blessed with earache-free children, but now that I've just said that, I bet I'll be purchasing some for the earaches all around.

Thanks for the tip, GiBee. And bless you and your little Hunter's heart. I'm praying that he will be healed soon.

That is a good tip for new moms. I remember those long nights when my little ones had earaches all night. They finally gave me a prescription for numbing drops to put in their ears along with the antibiotic. It workded, wonder why the quit doing that?

Two little boys and close to 40 ear infections later... now I find out about this! Do you know if they can use it when they have tubes in their ear? I'm going to have to check into it. Thanks for the tip!!

Thanks for ear infection tip...our little baby boy had to have tubes put in at 8 months old...he gets a runny nose and it turns into an ear infection! So glad to know about these drops...I'm definitely going to get these!

I found your blog and love it! I'd like to add you to my list.

Your story is amazing and I truly admire what you have been through to have children! God is really so good to allow us these wonderful blessings! May God bless.

We've used this in the past, and it does seem to help alot! Neither of my kids, now 7 and 4, have had a lot of ear trouble, thankfully...but my oldest seemed to have 3 or 4 bad earaches...I remember feeling SO sorry for her!
