How much does your wedding ring mean to you??? Not in a monetary sense, although now a days, that figure could be pretty high -- but rather, in a sentimental way??
Are you a DIE HARD, "wear the ring until the day you die" kind of person?
Are you a more of a "it is just a symbol... my love is in the person" kind of person?
Are you more of a "this thing cost us a fortune and it's never leaving my finger" person?
Are you more of a "wedding ring, schmeding ring... I don't need something to prove my love to someone else" kind of person?
Sunday, Kerri Walsh lost her wedding ring in the sand while playing volleyball ... and went on to win the game. She didn't stop to dig around in the sand, frantically looking for it... but she did mention that it was very precious to her.
Personally, I'm not attached to any particular piece of jewelry. I know my husband and I love each other, and frankly... I've out grown my wedding set [ehem] and moved on to a plain-ish band... as a symbol that I am taken ... because ... you know ... I would hate to fight off all those attractive men that are clamoring for an overweight, middle-aged mom of a toddler.
Where do YOU and YOUR wedding band stand? I'd love to know!

Not tied to it in any way shape or form. But I AM tied to my MAN! :))
Great post.
What an interesting question, GiBee! Wow. Hmmm. I have to really think on this one. I guess I would have to say I'm a die hard wear it till I die gal. For me there is a lot of sentimentality and memory attached to the ring. My love for my hubby is not attached to the ring. That stands on it's own, but a lot of memories go with the rings, you know what I mean? I'd be very sad if I lost it, but certainly wouldn't curl up and die. For our 25th hubby got me another ring which I now wear on my left hand but I still wear my wedding set on my right because of the sentimentality.
Until I had Libbyline, I was that Die Hard gal that never ever took my ring off. While pregnant, I had to choose . . . and I chose wisely to take it off rather than to have it cut off.
Now, I have completely swung the other way. My ring is still important to me almost 15 years in to this journey with my DP, but it is not at all the centerpiece of our marriage.
I rarely wear mine anymore, because it causes an eczema flare up every time I do. I've taken to wearing a sterling silver celtic band DP got me for my birthday nine years ago . . . for a whopping $10.
Great question, friend.
Oh I love my ring...
When my husband presented me with it, I was shocked. He really thought about what to get me even though we'd never really talked about it. It was vintage, so that meant he knew that was more "me" than the ones in the store, and also meant he had to look harder for it. It also had a big diamond and a lot of smaller ones...something I never thought my really frugal husband would buy. It rarely leaves my finger. On a daily basis I find myself fiddling with it and looking at it, and think of him.
Can I be all three? I love my ring because Mr. Right designed it for me. It was stinkin' expensive, especially considering he had no money at the time. He worked very hard to give me a piece that symbolized his love for me.
If I were to lose it, I would cry and cry. And then get over it.
I wear mine all the time; I don't take it off much (save when making meatloaf or painting.) I like wearing his love on my hand.
Although I don't have to have it, I like having this piece of jewelry that reminds me (and the world) that someone found me worth trouble to marry.
I never take mine off, I've had it on my finger since the day my hubby put it there 13 years ago. I do take it off to clean it occassionally but it goes right back on. I'm proud to wear it as a symbol of my love for my guy.
I never take mine off - much to the chagrin of my mother who declares my ring filthy. LOL
DaHubby chose a ring especially with meaning/symbolism in the design and number of curly-cews so it was incredibly precious to me (as is DaHubby).
Unfortunately, while applying sunscreen to Flicka at a remote canoe dock last summer, I took off my ring, got her and myself in the boat, and promptly left my precious ring on the dock...never to be seen again.
Initially, I was inconsolable: guilty, disappointed, upset were just the beginning. I called everyone I could think of. Adding insult to injury, I found the extra insurance rider we thought we had on the ring was actually a rider on a necklace DaHubby bought me for our 5 yr anniversary.
It took a few months of wearing a simple, cheap gold band to "teach me the lesson" of "it's the marriage, dummy, not the ring"
Now, I wear that plain band constantly and when DaHubby and I dream of the first extravagant purchases we will save for after our Dave Ramsey debt snowball is complete (LOL), mine is still a somewhat upgraded new ring! LOL
I wear my ring all the time (except when mopping or cooking with my hands). I love this ring because my husband did choose it and it was a TOTAL surprise. It's exactly what I would have chosen and the fact that we are that like minded (we had never even looked at rings!) meant as much to me as the gift itself.
After reading above I am definitely verifying our insurance coverage on it though...
Well. I was very particular about my ring when we got married. At the time, I swore that I wanted to wear The Exact Ring he put on my finger FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.
Now, I'm not so particular. Might have something to do with summer swelling. I'm currently wearing a lovely band he gave me for our anniversary on my ring finger cause my original one? Yeah, it doesn't fit right now.
Funny you should ask. I'm coming up on 10 years of marriage and think I want a plain gold band for an anniversary present. DH doesn't see the need to buy me a new wedding ring because he already bought me one and though it doesn't exactly fit (10 years and 4 1/3 pregnancies later) it is perfectly good. So, while I think I would like a plain band I think I'm stuck with the one I have on. And I do mean stuck because lately, can't get it off my finger. :)
What a great question! I'm so glad to find that I'm not alone in that my "set" got tucked away during pregnancy, and then stayed away because diamonds and rubies cut up little babies.
I have a gold band that my husband gave me, but sometimes gold is so yesterday...so sometimes I wear a sterling silver number. It, as someone else said, cost about $10.00.
Sometimes I'll forget to wear any, and I feel a little bad about that because my husband NEVER takes his off EVER!
You know, I actually feel really, really sentimental about it. I'd be devastated if I lost it. It wouldn't change anything--I'd still have my awesome man--but I really do treasure it. But then, my love language is "gifts" (I know yours is too, GiBee...don't you wish it was actually called "tangible tokens"??)
just checking in, but i had to comment on this. we were poor college students when we bought my wedding set. it was pretty plain but i loved it. after gaining weight (loved your comment about all those gorgeous men clamoring after a middleage, overweight mom! me too) i couldn't even get the ring off, but i made sure to check that the diamond wasn't in danger of falling off. then this spring, i lost the diamond! aaaack!! so i had it cut off my finger, the ring, not the finger. it was weird not wearing a ring at all. this summer i found a sterling silver ring that i liked and now i wear that on my ring finger.
i like having a symbol on my hand that i'm married. and my love language is gifts so i like knowing that my hubby bought it for me.
Interesting question--Hmm...For me, it isn't the ring..although I like a ring on that finger and wear it proud. But I have changed rings 3 times. The 1st set--I still have and treasure but really don't like so I don't wear it. We were 17 and 18 and had NO money so it wasn't exactly my dream ring :) Hubby updated my ring about 5 years later but it really bothered my finger -- and then it was stolen! That made me sad...but now I have a simple ring that I love. But it could totally be replaced or changed one day--I am sure it will. Through all the rings....my man is what matters! And I gladly wear I ring to show I am all his! :)
My hubby designed my ring for me personally and went to a friend who makes jewelry to have it made. I do treasure my wedding band alot and currently I haven't been able to wear it for a year due to health issues causing me to gain soo much weight. I do have my 10 year anniversary band hubby bought me and that does fit so I switched to that one. I do have to say I miss my wedding band.
