WFMW: A New Use for Disposable Diapers

Works For Me Wednesday is a weekly feature brought to you by Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer ... be sure to hop on over to check out a plethora of ideas, advice, and tips!

We have a dog.

The dog has a water and food bowl on a little carpet.

We have a toddler.

Toddler + water bowl = SPILLED WATER ON CARPET. All the time.

So, when my son picks up the water bowl and dumps the entire bowl of water on the little carpet (which is quite often, I might add), I just reach over and grab a disposable diaper, place it absorbent side down on top of the spill, stand on it for a few minutes, and ... voila ... no more puddled water on the carpet, and no messy bath towels to wash.

This quick little emergency use for disposable diapers has come in handy when my son has knocked over my husband's very large, and very full glasses of club soda on the family room carpet; his lemonade on the carpet; his iced tea on the carpet... the list goes on and on.

When it comes to spills, it's what works for me!

What a great idea! We've also used diapers as an emergency bandage. They are much more sterile than napkins or tissues and it usually makes little ones laugh and forget they are hurt... at least for a moment or two. :o)

That's a great idea. I will start using all the ones that the tabs get ripped off for that specific purpose.

That is a fantastic idea! I've had so many carpet battles. I just got my carpet cleaned and now I have a great idea in case we get more spills. Thanks so much!

This is a great idea. I did this when my daughter christened the truck seat during a diaper change on a day long drive home recently. It got up most of the puddle quickly.

This is the quick fix that my parents taught me when I was a kid! They would take clothes in the laundry hamper, damp it down a little, and then do exactly what you did with the disposable diapers. It was always kind of fun to jump up and down on the wet spot on the carpet to get the cloth to absorb it. Hehe!
